Experimental Laboratory for Finance and Economics (ELFE)
ELFE is an experimental research laboratory focused on human decision-making in individual and interactive environments. The laboratory serves to conduct computer-based experiments with up to 33 participants. Researchers in ELFE employ experimental economics methods to test and inspire economic theories.
The Department of Economics at UCL has a long tradition of experimental studies. The first laboratory (for the Centre for Economic Learning and Social Evolution – “ELSE”) was created thanks to the efforts of Ken Binmore, Andrew Chesher and David Ulph in 1995. The main activity focused on game theory, e.g., bargaining, decisions under uncertainty, social learning. ELFE is the natural evolution of the ELSE laboratory. The new studies still include Game Theory but cover a larger set of topics in Economics and in Finance.
ELFE is affiliated with the UCL Centre for Finance (UCL CfF) and the UCL Centre for Theoretical and Behavioural Economics (UCL THEBES).
