We are thrilled to congratulate our very own Chiara Lattanzio and Gabriel Ruiz Radrigan, both affiliated with the UCL Centre for Finance and currently completing our PhD in Financial Economics, on their exciting next career steps!

Chiara has accepted an offer from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), where she will join the Monetary and Economic Department as an Economist.

Gabriel has accepted an offer from the Central Bank of Chile, where he will join the International Analysis Unit of the Monetary Policy Division as a Senior Economist.

We wish Chiara and Gabriel every success in their new roles and look forward to following their careers.

Congratulations to our junior researchers, James Symons-Hicks and Yihan Xu, on their outstanding academic achievements and next steps in their research careers.

James, a UCL Economics BSc and MSc graduate, worked as a Research Assistant at the UCL Centre for Finance from 2022 to 2024 and is currently a Predoctoral Research Fellow at LSE. This autumn, James will begin the PhD Economics program at the University of California, Berkeley.

Yihan, who holds a BA in Financial Mathematics and Financial Engineering from Shandong University and an MSc in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics from LSE, has been a Predoctoral Research Fellow at the UCL Centre for Finance since 2024. Yihan will continue his academic journey in the PhD Financial Economics program at UCL.

We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and excited to see the impact they will make in academia and beyond. Wishing both of them every success in this next chapter.

We are delighted that Helena Palma Carvalho has won the Resolution Young Researcher Award at the 2026 SRB Economic Conference, organised by the Single Resolution Board (SRB) in Brussels on 18–19 March 2026. Helena presented her paper, “Suboptimal lending with deposit insurance”, at the Resolution Young Researchers Workshop, which formed part of the conference programme. Congratulations!
